IPL Review
THIS is what all the fuss is about: Will
IPL make 20-20 the only form of Cricket?. Is IPL the harbinger of cricketing doom or the key to a bright, prosperous future for the game? Some feel that the exciting nature of the game would woo more crowds
in future.
This is going to have significant implications in the way cricket
will be viewed and played. This would take cricket to new audiences and new frontiers. While, the Twenty20 rush, with the IPL at its apex, has prompted some to deride the exercise as a purely money-making venture
that will inevitably erode cricket’s rich fabric. Some express their concern that the Twenty20 over game could eventually harm, or even consume 50-over and Test cricket. Hayden, bought by the Chennai franchise of the IPL, said “I get the feeling
that the IPL and other Twenty20 competitions will lead to significant changes in cricket, not dissimilar to the way Super 14s has moved rugby forward.
Whether IPL will have good or - Hide quoted text - bad effects on world cricket, will it prove a cricketing pariah, intent on devouring other forms of the game, or will it ensure cricket’s survival in a time-poor society? That question will not definitively be answered until the competition begins in April.
